A Tail of Displacement

A Tail of Displacement

A 1930's inspired frame-by-frame animation by Chloe McNeill, Lewis Bowness and myself, arguing against modern day gentrification, which we created as part of our undergraduate course.

The old fashioned cartoon visual was inspired by the idea of outdated ways of thinking involved in gentrification. The animation is from the perspective of the 'fat/top cat's' who are the representation of modern day landlords and look down on the 'dirty rats' (victims of gentrification). The short animation features an assortment of 'products' being advertised to other 'top cats', which reflect the desire of landlords to do anything in their power to remove the victims of gentrification, such as driving up prices.
